Bio-mimetics is becoming important in the current world, where the hip on the usage of drones has made possible several technology pushes, by trying to mimic elements of the nature (insects, birds, fishes) into technology. Some members of ReFRESCO community are active in this area, and some applications have been made in order to demonstrate ReFRESCO techniques, its robustness and accuracy, and to better understand the physics behind complex natural propulsion systems: insects and fishes in this particular case. The common CFD (difficult) issues that play a role in all these applications are: highly unsteady flows; massive separation areas; imposed and free motion of structures; flexible structures; extreme grid deformation. Below, one can see some examples of these applications.

Low-Reynolds applications (Insects)

Mid-Reynolds applications (small fishes)

High-Reynolds applications (bigger fishes…)
